My Truth

"Hi Nicki Minaj."

"Hello." Nicki said in her british accent while taking a seat in the director looking chair across from the interviewer. Nicki got comfortable in her seat while the interview ran through her cards preparing her questions. Nicki's team fell in place in the background where they wouldn't be visible to the camera. The people on set were finishing up correcting the lighting and making sure all the cameras were in place.

"Alright, you guys ready?" A man said from behind the scenes. Nicki and the interviewer nodded. The man walked back behind the camera and began counting down from 5.

"Five. Four. Three. Two..." he pointed his finger at the interviewer.

"Hello Mrs. Nicki Minaj. How are you?"

"Hi, I'm good. How are you?"

"I'm good. Thank you for agreeing to do this interview with Essence magazine."

"Of course. I've always loved Essence magazine because it always had sophisticated and smart black business women on the cover and I'm so glad you guys asked me." Nicki said as she moved her hair back out of her face before placing her hands back on the arms of the chair.

"Let's just jump right into it, shall we?"

"Let's do it."

"And for the record, Nicki came out and said this will be her first and last time speaking about this publicly."

Nicki laughed.

"Yes, I did."

"Okay, so you are now married to this man that we've seen for years now. Some think he's your bodyguard, some think he's your boyfriend, or your hype man or whatever whatever. You are now married to this mystery person."

"Yes I am.Well, I wouldn't exactly call him a mystery." Nicki said with a smile.

"Did you take his last name?"

"Yes, I took his last name. So I am now Onika Tanya Maraj Samuels, to clear up the confusion. I know people thought that I didn't because I'm still Nicki Minaj. But that's just my stage name so I don't know how people got that confused."

"Some say that it was a cop out when you would call him just your best friend. What do you think about people saying that?"

"Uhm." Nicki crossed her legs getting comfortable in her seat. "I don't think it was a cop out because he WAS, well, still is, my BEST friend. When you..are in a relationship with someone who knows you like he knows me, that's what you call your best friend."

"So you don't think there was anything wrong with calling him that?"

"Absolutely not."

"Did he have a problem with hiding this at all? I mean, you're Nicki Minaj. You're a sex symbol, you're this, and that. Did he ever think like, 'Okay, no. We need to tell people.' Was it ever like that?"

Nicki laughed. "Well, I don't find myself to be a sex symbol at all. But, uhm...I mean of course there were times when he wanted to come out and speak on us, what man doesn't want to claim their girlfriend, you know? But I think with that, that made me love him so much more. Like he puts up with all this, he deals with all this, and he's still there for me at the end of the day. And that's what I love about him." Nicki said finishing with a smile.

"Did hiding you guys' relationship cause any problems?"

"It was definitely hard." Nicki laughed and then paused for a moment. "Pauz. But it definitely wasn't the easiest situation but I didn't want what's going on in my personal life to always be the topic of conversation. I wanted to deal with it when I was ready to."

"I don't think that helped." the interviewer said with a laugh.

"Right, because people were still very intrigued. There were still rumors and stories being written and all that stuff so I guess hiding it didn't do anything." Nicki shrugged. "But it did something for me so that's all that matters."

"So how does he feel when guys are all over you or trying to get at you?"

"At first it was weird for him because he wasn't used to that, I wasn't used to that. But he's very secure within himself, he knows I'm not interested in anyone else."

"So this next question...if you don't want to go there or anything because of recent events you can let me know..." Nicki nodded her head slightly. "So..you know, in asking people what they want to know. Was that whole you and Drake flirting thing just for show?"

"I don't think what we were doing was really flirting. I've told Drake time and time again that I looked at him as a little brother and that was that. I mean..the feelings were obviously really there on his part but, I didn't view Drake in that kind of way and anyone who knows me knows that. He was a great friend and everything but that was it."

"So Drake was never a threat in the relationship?"

"A threat?" Nicki laughed. "No. A problem? Yes."

"How was he a problem?"

"Because it just neeeeeever stopped. Even when I told him and you know, the young money family about Safaree and I, nothing really changed. So that played a major role in where me and Drake stand today, in- in this moment."

The interviewer nodded and moved on to the next thing, not wanting to spend too much time on that topic. "Your wedding..." the interviewer began. Nicki immediately had a huge kool-aid smile on her face. "There's that smile." Nicki laughed. "I see this topic makes you happy."

Nicki nodded. "Of course. That was the best day of my life. I've never been happier than when I was in that moment."

"How did that feel?"

Nicki released a happy, heavy sigh. "Like..a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. Because I felt like, you know, it's never going to be official until we get married. And with my career and everything and his career that he started it was like, okay. We're never going to have time to be.. ONE. Do you understand what I'm saying?" the interviewer nodded. "So. That moment was everything for me."

"It was a very secluded wedding. It seemed as if it were just close family and friends. You guys didn't have many celebrities."

"We really keep to ourselves. We still hang with the same people we've been hanging with since we were younger and they're still around today."

"Speaking of Safaree.. where is he right now?"

"He's in New York for business." Nicki said with a pout.

"Awe."

"Yeah, he's been there for a month now. But he'll be home tonight."

"You got married..around about a month ago, right?"

"Yes. The day after our honeymoon he had to go to New York and I had to fly out here."

"How's the month been without him? I know you guys are almost always together. Since you first came out on the scene he has always been right there with you. What do you guys do?"

"We skype almost every night. But even without that we're constantly talking to each other."

"You guys are still very much in that honeymoon stage, huh?"

Nicki slightly laughed. "It's not even that because we've always been like that. Even when, you know, we first met and we were just best friends we were always talking 24/7."

"So how long were you guys friends before you both realized there was something more?"

"Uhm, I would say for about 4 years I think."

"Wow. Most people can see it within at least the first year or so. I wonder what was so different with you guys?"

"I think I tried so hard to not let my feelings be known to myself. I just kept trying to push them to the back and keep pushing them to the back, but." Nicki shrugged. "I mean, you can't push things away forever."

"And why was that?"

"It's a looooonnnggg story." Nicki laughed.

"And right now in this time, you've known each other for how long?"

"Ei- eighteen years I believe...yeah. Eighteen years."

"Wow."

"Yup." Nicki said as she nodded her head with a smile.

"Do you ever worry about infidelity in your relationship?"

"Absolutely not." Nicki said shaking her head. "Absolutely not."

"If he ever WAS too cheat...not saying he will because I know SB personally and he's not the type. How would you react?"

"I would beat his ass." Nicki and the interviewer laughed. "He knows I don't play that."

"So who wears the pants in the relationship?"

"Definitely Safaree."

"Really?"

"Yes. I know I seem like the more you know, aggressive one and he seems so laid back and everything when he's not acting an ignorant ass mess." Nicki laughed. "But Safaree is definitely the man in the relationship. He just lets me be the boss in public."

"So who's the boss in the bedroom?"

"Safaree." They both laughed. "That's all him."

"Can you give us three reasons why you fell in love with him, and three reasons why you think he fell in love with you?"

"Hmmm..." Nicki shifted in her seat. "Honestly, I don't know why he fell in love with me." She let a quick smile appear before it disappeared and she looked off. "For me, the main thing was just his personality. He never fails to make me laugh." Nicki shook her head while smiling. "Never."

"What do you say to those who say he's only with you for the money? How does that make him feel and how does that make you feel?"

Nicki shifted in her chair. "He doesn't care. He doesn't let ignorant shit like that affect him. For me, it's just really disgusting that people think that. If you would take the time that you're using to talk shit to do research instead, you would know that even before I was who I am today he's been right there by my side."

"So it makes you angry?"

"It does." Nicki said as she bucked her eyes before returning them to normal. "It's stupid. People are stupid."

The interviewer laughed at Nicki's face which caused Nicki to laugh.

"So what did your fans have to say when you announced the news to them?"

"My barbz were so sweet, and so supportive, and were so excited. They've been wanting to know about my relationship life for years now. I know they're happy. They've been sending me lots of love and just being my cute little babies."

"Were your parents at all surprised when you guys told them that you two were dating?"

"No, they were trying to get us to date!"

"Really?"

"Yes. Can I tell this story?"

"Go ahead."

"One time, when me and Safare were like around 19/20 years old and we were at a friends wedding. Eeeeevery body in our families were like, trying to get us to date. Because I had caught the bouquet, so everyone was like telling Safaree to come get me and telling me to go get Safaree but." Nicki laughed. "We were just friends at the time."

"Playing hard to get?" the interviewer said with a laugh.

"That's what SB says." Nicki said playfully rolling her eyes. "He always tells people I was tryna play him back in the day."

"Last question and them I'm going to let you go since you're on a tight schedule today. If you could give the readers one piece of advice to a long lasting relationship like yours...what would you give them?"

"Hmmmm...." Nicki squinted her eyes and twisted her lips. "Communication. If you don't have communication it will just... there's no point."

"Alright, well thank you!"

"No, again, thank you guys!"

Nicki walked into the door of her house and immediately took off her heels. She placed them by the door and began walking up the steps. This is a time where she cursed herself for getting a house with all these flights of stairs because her feet were killing her. She definitely picked the wrong day to forget her slippers. Nicki made it up the stairs and stopped into the bathroom in the hallway. She turned on the hot water and let it get hot while she reached over and grabbed a face towel. She stared at the water for a minute before putting the rag under the water. She turned off the water and placed the towel on her face. She sighed into it and sat there for a minute before wiping off her make up. She took the towel off her face making sure she didn't miss a spot and tossed it in the sink. Nicki turned around and was met by SB. She gasped and began hitting him.

"Don't do that. Fucking jerk."

SB tried to dodge her hits but gave up. She finally stopped hitting him and he placed his hands on her waist and she placed her hands on his arms.

"When did you get here?"

"When you was at your interview."

Nicki made a pout. "Why didn't you call?"

"Surprise."

Nicki rolled her eyes and wrapped her arms around his body and closed any space that was between them.

"Did you miss me?"

"Did you miss me?"

"Faree." Nicki dead faced him.

SB laughed and leaned down to place a kiss on her lips. "You know it." He moved to the side placing a kiss on her cheek. He gripped her waist tightly, picked her up and sat her on the sink.

"You know I hate when you do this." Safaree ignored her and moved his kisses from her cheek to her neck. "Babe, we can't do that anymore." Nicki said as she enjoyed the kisses SB was giving her. She missed his affection more than anyone could ever know. "A month was too long." She grabbed his hand that was gripping the right side of her waist, removing it and held it. She used her other hand and grabbed at SB's face making him look at her.

"Did you miss me?"

"Yeah."

"Say it."

"I missed you."

Nicki smiled successfully and pulled his face to hers. "And I missed you." she said right before she kissed him. "How was New York?" Nicki dropped her hand from his face and let go of his hand.

"It was alright I guess.." Safaree walked over and sat on top of the edge of the jacuzzi. "That was crazy. Opening 4 stores in a month? I'll never do it again."

"Good." Nicki eased herself off the sink and walked over to Safaree. She took a seat on his lap and wrapped her arms around his neck and stared at the side of his face. "Then you won't have to abandon me anymore." Nicki leaned forward and pressed her face in the side of his neck. Safaree raised his hand and caressed her back.

"You do it to me all the time."

"No I don't."

"Yes you do."

Nicki ignored him and sighed into his neck.

"How did the interview go?"

"I loved it."

"Have fun talking about me?" Safaree smirked and placed his free hand on her thigh and scooted her closer to him.

"Mhmm." Nicki closed her eyes and enjoyed Safaree's hands caressing her thigh and her back. "I bashed you."

"I wouldn't be surprised."

Nicki laughed and lazy raised her arm to playful slap him in the chest.

"You sleepy?"

"Tired? Yes. Sleepy? No."

"You hungry?"

Nicki shook her head no while she remained smothered into Safaree's neck.

"Have you ate today?"

"Yes, daddy." Nicki said before she laughed. "Everyone will be here tomorrow."

"What for?"

"Welcome home, baby." Nicki said tiredly. SB smiled.

"You shouldn't have."

"I didn't. It was Rex's idea."

"I'm glad someone missed me."

"Don't say that." Nicki sat up and placed her hand on his cheek. She looked stared into his face for a moment before she brought his face forward and pecked his lips. Standing up she tugged at her dress.

"Yeah, I gotta bone to pick with you."

"About what? Here, unzip me." Safaree stood up and moved her long natural black hair out of the way and grabbed the zipper.

"You been wearing red the whole month I been gone. What's up with that?" The zipper got to the bottom of the dress and he sat back down on the edge of the jacuzzi while pulling his phone out of his pocket. Nicki laughed and slid the dress down her body.

"It was for you."

"Nuhn uhn. You ain't wear red not one time when we was on skype." he looked down at his phone before looking back up at her. "I even wore pink for you."

"I loved those flowers you sent me, they were beautiful." Nicki said changing the subject. She stepped out of the dress and held it.

"You liked those?"

"I loved those." she turned around heading for the door with Safaree on her heels. He followed behind her as she led them to the their bedroom. They entered the bedroom and Safaree immediately threw himself on the bed while Nicki walked into the "her" closet.

"Aaaaaaaah!" Safaree said. "This bed, yo." He grabbed a fluffy pillow and rested it under his hed before he adjusted his hat. "Hotel beds are terrible."

Nicki walked out of the closet and laughed at how Safaree was strung out on the bed.

"Why are you suffocating my pillow?" Nicki said walking towards the bed. He turned his head looking back at her.

"Why are you walking around half naked?"

"You're about to fix that. Stand up for me."

SB sighed shaking his head and stood up before pulling up his pants knowing exactly what meant by that. He took his hat off and Nicki smile and grabbed the hem of his t-shirt. She pulled it over his head and slid it down her body as SB put his hat back on. He sat himself back down on the bed and looked at her as she walked around the bed to her side.

"You know there's a drawer and closet full of my t-shirts right?" he said.

"I know that." Nicki said as she threw the cover back and climbed into the bed. She sat up and threw up the back of his t-shirt so she could unbuckle her bra.

"So why you always do that?"

"Do what?" Nicki said in an innocent voice while removing the bra and pulling the shirt back down. She threw the cover back and SB watched her as she walked around the bed and disappeared back into the closet. He took his hat off and sat it on the nightstand and looked over at Nicki when she came walking back out of the closet.

"What?" Nicki said smiling at him as she walked around the bed and slid under the cover. Messing up her middle part, Nicki ran her fingers through her hair moving it out of her face.

"You always take my shirts after I take a shower."

"Which makes me wonder why you continue to put them on." Nicki said while she snuggled up into Safaree's side and rested a hand on his chest. "I love it. They smell just like you." Nicki sighed being so comfortable right now. SB rested his head back on his pillow and wrapped an arm around Nicki's lower body. "I missed this."

"Me too." he said as his hand that was wrapped around Nicki began to caress her thigh.

"My busy man, no more month long trips."

"No more."

"My lips." Nicki said looking up at him with her lips puckered. He bent down and kissed her lips before resting his head back and Nicki snuggled into him more ready to go to sleep.
